10 Questions to Ask When Choosing Child Care

Accreditation: Is the facility fully certified by the State of Oregon?
Snoopeeland meets or exceeds all certification standards for center-based care. Centers are held to higher standard than family day care homes.

Stability / Longevity: How long has the facility been serving families in our community?
Snoopeeland has been serving families in Columbia County since 1972! We own our facility and have been in the same location for over 50 years.

Quality Staff: How many years experience does the staff have, and what education and training? Is the training ongoing?
Snoopeeland Child Development experts meet or exceed all training requirements, and participate in a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education and training each year. We do not use high school students or volunteers as center staff. Together, our staff offers more than 100 years of experience to your family!

Convenience: Does the facility offer before / after school care and year-round care for preschoolers and older siblings?
Snoopeeland is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
We offer a variety of flexible care options for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years, 12 months out of the year. Snoopeeland is open most school holiday and vacation days.

Academic mindset: Does the facility take a whole-child approach to education that values individual learning styles?
Snoopeeland’s curriculum includes holistic development in gross and fine motor skills, problem solving, communication, values and ethics, social skills, and academic basics. Our teachers strive to develop the potential of each child using auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic learning modes.

Atmosphere: Does the facility provide a nurturing family environment for positive character development?
At Snoopeeland, we desire to be your child’s home-away-from-home when care is needed. As an outreach ministry of Sunset Park Community Church, we recognize the value inherent in each child, and help them to succeed socially, emotionally, academically, and spiritually. Children learn by caring example.

Meals: Does the facility provide USDA-approved snacks and hot lunches?
Chef Tiffany provides a varied menu that meets or exceeds all USDA requirements for nutritional health. Besides ensuring children fresh, home-style foods, the center also has a garden area where kids participate in the seed-to-table cycle of fresh vegetables as they learn about sustainability and ecology.

Location: Does the facility offer safe, off-street drop off and pick up areas?
Snoopeeland’s main entrance is located within our large parking lot, providing plenty of off-street parking for parents and a safe, monitored area for bus drop offs and pick ups.

Room to roam: Does the facility offer ample, secure indoor and outdoor play areas?
Snoopeeland Child Development Center is located on the Sunset Park Community Church campus. The center has several classrooms, a lunch area, infant and toddler zones, a 5,000 square foot indoor play area, and a large, secure, fenced outdoor play yard. The play yard features many types of equipment to promote physical activity and motor skill development, and covered sections for weather protection.

Security: Does the facility offer gated, code-lock entry for children’s safety?
Your child’s safety is of prime importance at Snoopeeland. We provide extra security through our gated entry/exit system, which also provides identity confirmation for child pickup.
